  • The Board of Education is responsible for the governance of the District. It hires the Superintendent to manage the day-to-day operations of the District.

    The basic responsibilities of the Board are to:

    • Establish District policy

    • Prepare a District budget to be voted on by District residents

    • Ensure that the District funds are spent properly

    • Hire and evaluate the Superintendent

  • School board meetings are held in public so that the public has the opportunity to hear our deliberations and see our votes. While our meetings are conducted in public, they are not meetings for public discussion. During the meeting, the Board President may, at his/her discretion, call upon members of the audience who have knowledge concerning a specific topic that may add to the board's understanding.

    There is time set aside at each meeting for public comments. Although state law does not require us to hold a public comment period, we choose to do so because we believe it is crucial for us to hear from community members about their concerns and issues. In general, the board does not respond to public comments. The fact that we do not answer questions or comments does not mean that we don't listen to them and take them seriously. We take your concerns and questions seriously and want to have sufficient time to process and research the issues so that we answer correctly. Questions will be referred to appropriate employees or answered at a future meeting.

  • Each year, the Board of Education adopts both board and district goals for the year.

    The board goals are the things the board hopes to accomplish in order to improve our governance of the district. The goals for 2025-2026 are as follows:

    1. Oversee the development of the Strategic Plan.
    2. Work with the architect to develop a Building Project to meet the needs identified in the Building Condition Survey.

    The district goals are developed by the board in conjunction with the administration and the Roxbury Cooperative Management Team.

  • Each year, the Board of Education adopts a Statement of Principles which informs and guides our actions and decision-making. This year's State of Principles is as follows:

    The members of the Board of Education of the Roxbury Central School agree to:

    • Insofar as possible, attend all Board of Education meetings

      and become informed concerning the issues to be considered

      at those meetings;

    • Maintain familiarity with education issues through study and

      participation in programs which provide need information

      such as those provided by local and state school board associations;

    • Encourage the free expression of opinion on matters before the

      board by all Board members;

    • Render all decisions based on available facts and independent

      and unbiased judgment;

    • Encourage appropriate communication between the Board

      members and the school staff and students and with community

      members;

    • Use the District assigned email account for all school-related

      business and not for any personal business;

    • Take no private action that will compromise the Board or the

      school administration;

    • Speak on behalf of the board only when authorized to do so; and

    • Respect the confidentiality of information that is privileged
